Own Your Numbers vs Fathom.

Fathom is the best-reviewed app of its kind on the Xero App Store, and if your accountant will run it, it is a superb buy. Reporting, forecasting and consolidation in one place, with support its reviewers rave about. The one structural boundary that matters here, from Fathom's own feature page: its cash flow forecasts run monthly, quarterly or annual - not weekly. If a weekly cash rhythm is the thing you are missing, that is the gap a Monday briefing fills, and it is the only round we would claim.

The numbers first: 4.95 average, 609 reviews, the most reviewed and most actively reviewed app of its kind, and only 3 of the 602 rated reviews in our corpus sit at 3 stars or below. What buyers praise, repeatedly: support (223 mentions in our corpus, the strongest theme we found anywhere), multi-entity consolidation (86), forecasting that updates itself from Xero actuals (104) and KPIs (85). One reviewer trialled three apps to replace an Excel consolidation model and Fathom "was the only app that was flexible and intutive enough" - their spelling, their five stars.

Is Fathom overkill for an owner-director?

The most useful caveat comes from a 3-star review: "Demo reports are not setup fully and require a fair amount of time in additional to learning how the system works. Good product but they oversell how easy it is." Fathom rewards somebody who will learn it properly - usually your accountant. Going it alone, the honest question is whether you will do the learning, because a brilliant tool nobody drives produces exactly as much insight as no tool.

The weekly question

And then the boundary: Fathom's own feature page states its cash flow forecasts run monthly, quarterly or annual, not daily or weekly. That is not a criticism - it is a design choice for management reporting - but it is precisely the space a weekly briefing lives in: cash, net cash, cushion in months, risk rating, debtors to chase, five actions, every Monday, pushed to your WhatsApp or inbox. It reads in a minute and tells you what it thinks rather than showing you what it knows - fast, clear, opinionated: the opposite trade to a reporting suite, on purpose. Across all 1,427 Syft, Fathom and Float reviews in our corpus, 14 mention anything weekly. The Monday slot is genuinely empty.

If Fathom does the month-end, the briefing covers the weeks in between: nothing to produce, it sends itself. Connect each client read-only under one account: every client's cushion and risk rating in one Monday scan, briefings you can share without granting anyone write access, and the monthly pack stays yours. The practice workflow is its own page.
